DI Ursula Knaack, MSc

Ursula Knaack

Job Description:

Chemist and Ecotoxicologist

My educational path:

  • 2009: BSc. in ‘Technical Cheme’ TU Vienna – Master studies ‘Biotechnolgy & Bioanalytics’ (TU Vienna) and ‘Neuroscience’ (University of Vienna)
  • 2012: DI / MSc. in ‘Biotechnology & Bioanalytics’, TU Vienna – Part-time Master studies ‘Ecotoxicology and Technical Environmental Management’ (UAS Technikum Wien)
  • 2020: MSc. in ‘Ecotoxicology and Technical Environmental Management’, UAS Technikum Wien

What makes it interesting for me?

I learn new things all the time and can delve into topics that have always been important to me personally. With my students, I like to discuss the very big challenges of our time – especially in ecological terms – and possible solutions for them.

Why do I work in this job?

For me, there are many opportunities in my work to develop further – both professionally and personally. For example, I present at professional conferences and have recently been leading a project on quality assurance in our teaching. These are big – but of course especially great – challenges!

Why me?

My wide-ranging interests and the fact that I have definitely thought outside the box in my training and career are now benefiting me greatly. I really enjoy sharing my knowledge and also learning from my colleagues and students (!). In addition, my field – especially environmental chemistry and life cycle assessment – is very close to my heart.

What would make this job even better?

Like probably almost everyone, I would like to have more time to develop and implement new ideas for my teaching. In addition, it would be nice to have the capacity for closer coordination with colleagues and to learn from them.

This is the advice I would give to my 15 year old self:

Take on challenges, even if you don’t yet know exactly how you will overcome them. The ability comes with the doing! And have the courage to shape your life so that it suits you.
