10th MedTec Summer Academy – Medical Technology in the Heart of the Waldviertel Region

The MedTec Summer Academy, the unique summer school in the field of medical technology in the German-speaking region, took place for the tenth time this year. From July 3 to 9, students, lecturers and industry and research partners met for the first time in Horn. The MedTec Summer Academy is open to all Bachelor’s and Master’s students in the field of medical technology from all German-speaking universities and universities of applied sciences.

For one week, 22 selected students worked together on current issues from all areas of medical technology. The core of the event was the work on company projects in workshops, in addition there were impulse lectures, the exchange with representatives from economy and research as well as a diversified supporting program.

This year, the Austrian Society for Biomedical Engineering held its board meeting during the MedTec Summer Academy, after which there was the opportunity for a lively exchange between the students and the board members.

In cooperation with the OEAD Cooperation Office in Lviv and the Association for the Promotion of Biomedical Engineering in Europe, it was possible this year to enable five Ukrainian students to participate in the MedTec Summer Academy. This should be the preparation for a stronger cooperation in the field of medical technology and medical IT with the Ukrainian Catholic University, so that in the future a further international orientation of the MedTec Summer Academy can be considered.

The MedTec Summer Academy is backed by the core team of the MedTec Summer Academy, the Technikum Wien Academy and the Austrian Society for Biomedical Engineering. The program is sponsored by the province of Lower Austria and a whole range of top-class partners from industry and research are on board.
