A look into the future: machine learning in game development

Experts from the game development industry shared their views on machine learning in game development at the end of November. The Faculty of Computer Sciences & Applied Mathematics at UAS Technikum Wien was also represented.

Alexander Nimmervoll and Lars Mehnen from the Fakulty of Computer Sciences & Applied Mathematics took part in a panel discussion on November 21, 2023 together with Eberhard Dürrschmid from Golden Whale Productions and Samuel Arzt from Redox Interactive. Georg Hubmeier from Causa Creations moderated the discussion.

The experts from the game development industry shared their views on machine learning in game development. The discussion highlighted the diverse applications of machine learning and the associated opportunities and challenges.

Impact of machine learning on professional fields in the games industry

During the discussion, the experts addressed, among other things, the impact of machine learning on professional fields within the games industry, in particular large language models. The discussion touched on topics such as the changes in training and the changing requirements for various jobs in this emerging field. A central point was also the unresolved issue of the commercial use of AI-generated content.

The event took place in the PGDA Association’s Discord Channel and was streamed live on Twitch. The community showed great interest in this panel discussion.
