All Girls can make Tech (ALMAH): Summer Camp with do-it-yourself science

06 October, 2023
A Summer Camp for girls took place at the end of August at UAS Technikum Wien with practical support from professionals. Participants from the girls’ center *peppa and all over Vienna completed a colorful workshop program under the motto “Do-it-yourself science – All Girls can make Tech”.
For one week, the participants completed a workshop program ranging from physics to electronics to robotics. The girls and young women between the ages of 14 and 20 were also given the opportunity to practice important skills for their future careers in presentation, video shooting and job application training.
Mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (STEM) still look very male. At the same time, people with native languages other than German are often discriminated against in the job market. The ALMAH project aims to provide targeted support for girls at this interface.
The project offers learning assistance, a summer camp and brings female role models from the MINT sector before the curtain. The learning assistance is provided by female students. The Summer Camp makes science tangible through age-appropriate workshops and hands-on experiments.
The official website of ALMAH can be found at technikum-wien.at/almah
The project is carried out in cooperation of the FHTW (ALMAH overall project manager at UAS Technikum Wien: Mariella Müller) and the girls center *peppa and is financed by the Austrian Fund for the Empowerment and Advancement of Women and Girls Let‘s empower Austria.
