Expert talks, exchange and networking were on the agenda at the Semantic AI Meetup on 9/13.

The Semantics2022 conference focuses on current topics in Machine Learning, Data Science, Linked Data and Natural Language Processing. Part of the event is also the Semantic AI Meetup, which took place on 13th September at the UAS Technikum Wien.

During the evening event at the Technikum, international conference guests and the local Semantic AI community were able to exchange ideas and discuss current specialist topics. A total of around 120 guests came to the Meetup at the UASTW, including numerous students and teachers from the UAS.

What is Semantic AI?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is often equated with Machine Learning (ML) – especially Deep Learning has been crucial for the successes of the past years. Semantic AI aims to combine the advantages of ML with techniques from Symbolic AI, such as semantic technologies.

This hybrid approach allows better data quality, easier combination of structured and unstructured data, mutual optimization and the combination of different methods. While ML recognizes the objects in automated driving, Symbolic AI understands the road rules.

Keynotes and Networking

The Semantic AI Meetup was organized by Martin Kaltenböck, Co-Founder and CFO of Semantic Web Company (SWC), Georg Sedlbauer (Vienna Business Agency) and UASTW-Lecturer/Researcher Lukas Rohatsch. After the welcome by Martin Kaltenböck and Rector Sylvia Geyer, Axel Polleres from the Institute for Data, Process and Knowledge Management at WU Vienna dedicated his keynote speech to the topic “Decentralized Open Knowledge Graphs: a Basis for Hybrid AI?”. Sebastian Gabler, CCO at SWC then followed up in his keynote with the topic “Use Cases – Knowledge Graphs & Semantic AI”.

With a raffle, where students could win tickets for the Semantics2022 conference, and networking afterwards, the evening finally came to a convivial close.
