Artificial Intelligence for the Energy Transition: Successful Completion of the Kite Project

27 August, 2024

Data-based AI technologies are intended to improve the energy industry and thus increase the efficiency of companies in the sector.

On April 10, 2024, the final meeting of the FFG-funded AI project “KITE” took place, which brought together six strong partners from the energy industry at Technikum Wien. They worked together to build up expertise in the field of data-based artificial intelligence in companies in the energy sector.

Leading companies from the energy industry involved

The “KITE” project (competence development for the sustainable use of data-based artificial intelligence technologies in the energy sector) was launched on November 30, 2022. Six leading companies from the energy industry took part and contributed their expertise and experience: Sonnenplatz Großschönau GmbH, ATB-Becker e.U., Hödl am Kurs GmbH, Scheiber Solutions GmbH, Elektrizitätswerke Reutte AG and Elektrizitätswerke Frastanz GmbH.

Building skills and future prospects

The “KITE” project, led by project manager Elaheh Momeni-Ortner (Artificial Intelligence & Data Analytics competence field), aimed to provide companies with skills in the use of data-based AI technologies. Until spring 2024, individual training sessions were held in an innovation camp to assess companies’ data maturity and drive forward the development of data management, data analytics and data security. This was intended to strengthen companies in research, development and innovation management.

Successful conclusion and outlook

The final meeting marked an important milestone in the successful implementation of the “KITE” project. The knowledge gained from the project will not only be incorporated into teaching at UAS Technikum Wien, but networking and cooperation between the companies will also be continued after the end of the project in order to further promote innovation in the energy sector.

The final workshop played a decisive role in disseminating the project. By inviting external speakers from the fields of energy and AI and presenting the results of the KITE project to external experts, valuable impetus was provided.
