Brno in Focus: A Day Between Science and City History

16 April, 2025
A program organized by the International Office of UAS Technikum Wien took 20 students and 6 staff members to Brno, where modern research met a historical city tour.
On March 31, 2025, a trip to Brno took place for 20 students and 6 employees of our university. The day, organized by the International Office of UAS Technikum Wien, allowed for both academic exchange and cultural discovery.
The day began with a journey from Vienna to Brno, which took the participants to the Czech city with great anticipation. On arrival, the group travelled directly to Brno University of Technology, one of the leading universities in the Czech Republic.
Fascinating insights into modern research and technology
There, the participants were given exciting insights into the work of the various departments. The visits to the Department of Microelectronics, the Department of Control and Instrumentation with the Centre for Research and Utilization of Renewable Energy, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering together with the Centre of Sport Activities were particularly interesting. Each of these areas offered fascinating perspectives on modern research and technologies.
Afterwards, the participants explored Brno on a city tour, which took them through historical and cultural highlights. From Špilberk Castle to Petrov Cathedral, Brno showed its charming side and conveyed a sense of the city’s history and character.
Participants have learned more about Brno and its people, both in culinary and personal terms
The day came to a cosy end in Padowetz restaurant, where the participants reviewed the impressions of the day over dinner and enjoyed the exchange of ideas. It was the perfect opportunity to learn even more about Brno and its people, both in culinary and personal terms.
With many new impressions and valuable experiences, the group travelled back to Vienna in the evening. The International Office is looking forward to future joint trips with students and staff from the UAS and the ongoing exchange between the two higher education institutions.„University is about so much more than just the study itself. It’s about creating memories with fellow colleagues and expanding my knowledge horizon through discovering new cultures and also different universities.“ (Student participant)
