The Vienna Deep Learning Meetup on November 17 at the UAS Technikum Wien focused on AI applications in the automotive sector.

Deep Learning is currently a major trend in machine learning and is considered an important driver for a new era of Artificial Intelligence.
Recently, this field has led to many scientific breakthroughs. Large companies such as Google or Facebook were able to achieve enormous success in the further development of image, object and speech recognition with the help of Deep Learning – and there are many more areas of application for the technology.

At the Vienna Deep Learning Meetup on November 17 at the FH Technikum Wien, the topic was discussed at the interface between research and industry. After the welcome by Rafael Rasinger, Head of Innovation, Scaleup & Networks, Bernhard Knapp first gave insights into the research and teaching activities at UASTW in the field and into the contents of the master’s program AI Engineering, which he leads, and the master’s program Data Science.

In the first keynote lecture of the evening, Marc Javin from the Viennese company emotion3d then addressed the topic of “Eye Analysis:
Designing a Neural Network for the Automotive Industry”. His colleague Georg Braun followed with the topic “Going Embedded: Real-time Deep Learning for automotive applications”.

After the break, Liad Magen, Franz Fürbass and René Donner presented “Hot Papers” around the topic of Deep Learning. Afterwards, the evening came to a convivial end with technical discussions, networking and drinks.
