Digibox: Ageing Research Project Provides Digital Relief

04 April, 2024

A pioneering project by the Academy for Ageing Research at the Haus der Barmherzigkeit (AAF), with the participation of UAS Technikum Wien: the DigiBox, an innovative device that gives residents and their relatives effortless access to personal information and at the same time relieves the burden on care staff.

Seamless communication between relatives and care staff is crucial for effective care. The DigiBox project by the Akademie für Altersforschung am Haus der Barmherzigkeit (AAF) is based on extensive staff surveys and aims to close this communication gap and support the care team by reducing time-consuming requests for information.

Easy digital access and enriching photo sharing

The DigiBox is a user-friendly tablet for seniors that allows residents and their loved ones to effortlessly access weekly appointments, meal plans and even photos. Simple activation using NFC technology and the intuitive user interface make it easy for older generations to use.

Focus on partnerships and data protection

The project, which is supported by the Arbeiterkammer, is the result of a collaboration between the Akademie für Altersforschung, OSSI Austria und UAS Technikum Wien. While OSSI Austria is working on the technical development, UAS Technikum Wien is concentrating on user-friendliness. Data protection is a top priority and careful attention is paid to what information is shared and what is not.

Outlook for the future

The goal for 2024 is to develop a prototype that will be tested and further developed at the Haus der Barmherzigkeit. The DigiBox will not only make care easier, but also take an important step towards a digitally networked future for older people.
