The EBC*L program for teaching business skills has existed at the UAS Technikum Wien for 15 years. At the certificate award ceremony on September 16, 2022, the 800th successfully passed exam was also celebrated.

The awarding of the EBC*L certificates on 16.9.2022 was marked by two anniversaries: The program for imparting business knowledge has already existed at the UAS Technikum Wien for 15 years. In addition, this year saw the 800th successfully completed exam at the EBC*L Academy located there. The head of the academy, Daniel F. Leutgeb, gave a brief historical review of the development of the successful program at the university of applied sciences.

Review: 15 Years of the EBC*L Program

In 2007, the first A-level EBC*L course was held at UASTW. The technical center was also accredited as an official examination center that year. This legitimation allows internal students and employees as well as external interested parties to take EBC*L exams and receive certifications. In 2008, the first level B course followed and in 2012, the first C module was finally held at the FH Technikum Wien. At the same time, program manager Leutgeb was able to award certificates as EBC*L-Certified Manager (ECM) for the first time in Europe, which are available for completing all three course levels. The following year, the certification program at Technikum became the first in the world to receive Academy status.

In the years 2010-2014, the UASTW was able to win the award as the most successful EBC*L examination center in the category “University – University of Applied Sciences” at the EBC*L “Champions League” in series. 2015 celebrated the delivery of the 25th course overall. Four years later, Hielei Heider became the first graduate to achieve a “grand slam,” meaning she successfully passed all three exams on one exam date. This was followed in 2021 by the second grand slam by Georg Obermeier.

What the Future Holds

While the courses at levels A and B have already been adapted to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), this is still to come for level C, explained Daniel Leutgeb in a brief outlook on the further development of the program. In addition, work is currently underway on the design of a special EBC*L flag, which will be hoisted in the future on the occasion of the certificate award ceremonies.

Finally, the certificates were handed over. This was done by Tereza Obrucova, an employee of the TLC. This time, 15 exams were successfully completed in course level A, 14 in level B and two in level C. A total of ten participants received an ECM certificate for successfully completing all three exams. The exact 800th EBC*L exam was taken by student Reinhard Wöhrer, who received a board game and a box of Mozart chocolates as a gift from program director Leutgeb. The certificate ceremony was concluded with the obligatory group photo.
