Bachelor’s degree in Environmental and Bioprocess Engineering and Hydrogen Technology and Master’s degree in Climate-Conscious Building Technology and Quantum Engineering start in fall 2024 – application already possible

Subject to accreditation by AQ Austria, four new degree programs will start at UAS Technikum Wien this fall. Applications are already open for the Sustainable Environmental and Bioprocess Engineering and Hydrogen Technology degree programs (both as Bachelor’s degrees) as well as Climate Conscious Building Technology and Quantum Engineering (both as Master’s degrees). Three of the four courses will be made possible by the overall expansion of UAS places announced by Education Minister Martin Polaschek on February 6, while the fourth will be made possible by reallocating existing places.

“Once again, we are at the forefront of the expansion of the UAS sector. We are delighted that almost a quarter of all newly approved places for new students nationwide will go to UAS Technikum Wien,” says Managing Director Barbara Czak-Pobeheim.

“We are expanding our range of courses in four absolutely future-oriented areas. This shows that we are able to react quickly to technological developments and develop practice-oriented educational programs at a high academic level,” says Rector Sylvia Geyer.

“We have identified growing areas and professional fields and developed courses that are unique in Austria in some cases. In line with our claim Change our tomorrow, we will train top specialists for the domestic economy here,” says Managing Director Florian Eckkrammer.

Two Key Technologies

Bioprocess technology and environmental technology are two key technologies for a sustainable future. Bioprocess technology uses biological systems such as organisms or parts thereof to produce, for example, bio-based chemicals, complex active ingredients for medicine or products for the food industry. Environmental engineering contributes to solving environmental problems, improving resource efficiency and reducing the ecological footprint of industry and society. The new Bachelor’s degree program is a foundation for the established Master’s degree program in Ecotoxicology & Environmental Management as well as for a career in attractive industries and professional fields.

Central Element for the Future

Hydrogen is rapidly gaining importance in terms of climate protection and sustainability. As a central energy source, hydrogen can enable and accelerate the phase-out of fossil fuels. In addition, new technologies are enabling the development of new areas of application – mobility, mechanical engineering, energy storage and energy transportation are just a few of them. The Bachelor’s degree course in Hydrogen Technology provides an overview of the technologies used along the entire value chain: from production, transportation and storage to systems and energy conversion. It is a dual study program. Application is made exclusively to UAS Technikum Wien. The first two semesters of the course are completed at FHTW, during which time the application phase begins at one of the available partner companies. From the third semester onwards, the course alternates between practical phases at companies and at the FHTW.

Sustainable and Resilient Buildings

In order to drive forward the expansion of local and district heating and achieve the goal of a climate-neutral Austria, it is necessary to construct energy-flexible and energy-saving buildings. And in order to meet the demand for skilled workers, a denser supply is required. The Master’s in Climate-Conscious Building Technology is a dual study program. Applications are made exclusively to the UAS Technikum Wien. The first semester starts in the first few weeks at FHTW. Before and during this phase, the application process starts at the partner companies for the work experience phases. The second half and the rest of the course is then carried out alternately at UAS Technikum Wien and the partner companies in order to establish a practical link to theory.

Quantum Technologies for Practice

Quantum technologies are currently making the decisive leap from basic research to market maturity. They are among the key digital technologies of the 21st century. The English-language Master’s degree program in Quantum Engineering is an excellent continuation of a Bachelor’s degree in physics, electronics or computer science, but also offers graduates of other technical studies very good job prospects in a promising professional field. All new degree programs will already be represented at the Open Day on 15 March at the main campus of UAS Technikum Wien.
