Insights into Sustainability and Environmental Management: Highlights of the Final Presentations in the Master’s in Ecotoxicology & Environmental Management

The final presentations of the applied research project in the Master of Ecotoxicology & Environmental Management offered insights into current developments and challenges in the field of environmental sciences.

On January 30, 2024, the final presentations of the Applied Research Project in the Master’s degree in Ecotoxicology & Environmental Management took place. The event attracted a large number of participants and offered insights into important topics and the latest findings in the field of environmental sciences.

The evening began with an introductory speech by Martina Ortbauer, (Head of Master Master´s degree program Ecotoxicology & Environmental Management), who emphasized the importance of the research project for the students and the academic community.

Keynotes: Experts shared their knowledge

The keynote sessions were among the highlights of the event, with two renowned experts (who were also on the expert panel at the event) presenting their findings and discussing them with the participants.

In his presentation “New ESG reporting obligations to save the world?”, Josef Baumüller from TU Wien (formerly WU Vienna) shed light on the impact of CSRD and ESRS on European companies and emphasized the importance of financial and non-financial reporting for sustainable development. His expertise in this area was extremely informative for the participants.

Georg Machat from AGES provided insights into the topic of “Plant protection products – from the approval of active substances to the product”. His presentation provided valuable information on the path from the approval of active substances to the market launch of plant protection products and stimulated discussions on environmental impacts and regulation.

Poster presentations and networking

After the keynotes, students presented their posters and answered questions from the expert panel. This provided a great opportunity for discussion and exchange of ideas. Afterwards, participants enjoyed a networking event and buffet, which further lightened the atmosphere of the evening.
A special moment of the evening was the awarding of the Best Poster Prize, which recognized the outstanding achievement of a student and highlighted the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

Insight into collaboration with industry

The company Watstream GmbH played a significant role in the research project. The presence of CEO & Founder Herbert Gölß, Sales Representative for the LATAM region Luciana Trippolt and Helmut Rumpf underlined the valuable collaboration between industry and academia.

Presentation of the poster prizes

Rector Sylvia Geyer presented the poster prizes and emphasized the importance of research and academic commitment for the university.

The final presentations of the applied research project in the Ecotoxicology & Environmental Management Master’s program were a complete success and left a lasting impression on all participants. The event not only demonstrated the diversity and depth of research at the University of Applied Sciences, but also the close connection between academic teaching and practical application.
