Living Center for the Future of Healthcare: International Dicom® Meeting at Uas Technikum Wien

Experts from the USA, India and European countries gathered at UAS Technikum Wien for a working group meeting on the DICOM® (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) standard.
On 4 and 5 March 2024, a delegation of members of the internationalen Standardisierungsorganisation DICOM® met at UAS Technikum Wien at the invitation of DICOM® Usergroup Austria to discuss the future and further development of the DICOM® standard. This exchange provided a valuable opportunity for experts to share their perspectives and work together on future strategies. DICOM® is THE worldwide standard for the storage and exchange of information in medical image data management and is used in practically all Austrian hospitals and radiology institutes and is also one of the foundations of ELGA.
“Cooperation with international organizations such as DICOM® is of crucial importance for the further development of our healthcare systems through international standardized data exchange. We are pleased that we at UAS Technikum Wien can make a contribution to this by providing space for such important discussions,” says Alexander Mense, Head of the Faculty of Computer Science & Applied Mathematics at UAS Technikum Wien.
Strategic goals and guidelines for the further development of the standard
At the beginning, the experts dived into the depths of Working Group 10/29 to discuss strategic consulting, education, communication and public relations. The second day focused on the DICOM® Standard Committee. The discussions were characterized by a wide range of expertise and experience, resulting in a comprehensive understanding of the needs and requirements of the global healthcare community.
The meeting was made possible through the generous support of the Bundesfachgruppe Radiologie (Federal Radiology User Group) (BURA), which is actively involved in the promotion and advancement of medical imaging.
An important milestone was marked through the event at UAS Technikum Wien in the international cooperation to strengthen the DICOM® standard and underlines the role of UAS Technikum Wien as a leading institution in the field of standardized health data exchange.
