“One of us”: Rector of the University Petrosani appointed as honorary member of the UAS Technikum Wien

The award for Sorin Mihai Radu, Rector of the University of Petrosani in Romania, underlines the long-standing cooperation between the two universities.
In a festive special session of the UAS Council, Sorin Mihai Radu, Rector of the University of Petrosani in Romania, was appointed as a honorary member of the UAS Technikum Wien on 17 February. The appointment underlines a cooperation of many years with the Romanian university.
“Rector Radu is a fascinating personality. He is known for his professional expertise as well as for social responsibility”, said Vice-Rector Christian Kollmitzer. In his laudatory speech, he praised Radu’s numerous publications and know-how, but also, for example, the founding of an initiative to introduce apprentices in Romania to university studies, and Radu’s commitment to the ecological restoration of former mining areas.
“Today is the right time to say thank you,” said Managing Director Gabriele Költringer with regard to the cooperation with Petrosani. In her speech, she underlined the importance of university cooperation within the European Union.
“It is a great honour for me”, said Sorin Mihai Radu. “I see it as a commitment to further develop our friendship and cooperation.” In his own speech Radu outlined the challenges and further development in Romanian higher education, including the ongoing internationalisation.
“With this step you are one of us”, said Rector Fritz Schmöllebeck at the award ceremony.
