Research project aims to recognize the emotions and body language of people in a vehicle.

The Empathic Vehicle research project is a pioneering initiative that aims to develop an innovative system that recognizes the emotional states and body language of people in a vehicle. Using state-of-the-art technologies such as computer vision and machine learning, vehicles should be able to understand the emotions, moods and needs of their occupants and react accordingly.

As part of this project, extensive user studies are being carried out both in laboratory environments and in real vehicles using several additional sensors. This not only enables the creation of previously unavailable data sets, but also the exploration and evaluation of new artificial intelligence methods for emotion-based support of human driving behavior.

The integration of emotion and body language recognition into the vehicle system not only makes a significant contribution to improving road safety, but also raises the user experience (UX) to a new level. These two aspects are already decisive sales arguments for vehicle.

The project is funded by the Vienna Business Agency as part of the Tech4People 2023 call. The project will run from January 2024 to August 2026. The collaboration between TU Wien, University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien and the project management by emotion3D GmbH underline the importance and innovative nature of this research project.
