Robotics Day 2024: Inspiration and Innovation from the World of Robotics
31 January, 2024
UAS Technikum Wien opened its doors for Robotics Day, which offered insights into the potential and future of robotics.
Robotics Day at UAS Technikum Wien on January 25, 2024 was packed with inspiring presentations, practical workshops (141 participants) and a company exhibition that showed the diversity and dynamism of current developments in robotics.
The campus tours (279 registrations) were particularly exciting, including a tour of the Technikum Digital Factory, a pilot factory for typical Industry 4.0 scenarios. The approximately 450 visitors were offered insights into the latest robotics technologies and were able to engage in an exciting exchange with industry experts and cooperation partners.
The robotics degree programs at UAS Technikum Wien presented their projects and provided an insight into training to become a roboticist. At the same time, practical workshops for children and young people as well as adults offered the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of robotics and gain initial experience in the fields of virtual/augmented reality, electronics and robot construction.
One of the highlights of the day was the Industry Talks, where future talents and experts from research and industry came together. Finally, the Robotics Talk took place, which presented interesting topics from various areas of robotics and discussed important considerations for the economic development of this field in Austria.
Robotics Talk 2024: Insights and Innovations
Wilfried Kubinger welcomed and introduced the Robotics Talk, which was moderated by Mohamed Aburaia from UAS Technikum Wien. The Robotics Talk provided a platform for the exchange of thoughts and ideas on the economic development of robotics in Austria.
The first presentation was given by Simon Kranzer from Meshmakers GmbH, who stood in for Reinhard Mayr. Under the title “An introduction to OT security”, Kranzer highlighted the challenges, security concepts and best practices in the field of Operation Technology (OT) security. He emphasized the growing merging of the production and IT worlds, particularly in robotics, and discussed current topics such as data protection and cyber resilience.
Florian Gerstmayer from Limes Security presented the next lecture entitled “IEC 62443 – A security toolkit to make industry more secure”. He explained the importance of security standards in the field of Operational Technology (OT) and provided insights into industry-specific standards. In particular, he emphasized the need for secure development and the role of IEC 62443 certifications.
Kevin Nikolai from Pilz Ges.m.b.H. spoke about the “Integration of safety features in robot automation – best practice”. He shared best practices for safe robot installation and guided the audience through the different phases, from idea to validation. Nikolai emphasized the importance of complying with legal safety regulations and presented examples of how safety features can be successfully integrated.
Werner Zipperer from SICK GmbH gave a presentation on “Safe Robotic Solutions: Safeguarding danger zones on robots – for the safety and productivity of a system”. Zipperer emphasized the growing importance of human-robot interaction and the need to integrate safety standards into robotic systems in order to create a safe and productive environment.
The last presentation was given by Dario Stojicic from ABB AG. He spontaneously stepped in for Christopher Dittrich and presented “Robot-assisted machine loading – use cases with regard to plant safety in robotics”. Stojicic emphasized the importance of automation in times of market changes and digitalization. He discussed the advantages of robotics, such as flexibility and competitiveness, and highlighted various use cases for robot-assisted machine loading.
The Robotics Talk offered participants not only insights into current developments in robotics, but also the opportunity to discuss with experts from different areas of the industry and learn from each other. The Robotics Day provided an inspiring platform for the exchange of ideas and the promotion of robotics in our society.
