Safe start into the new academic year

04 September, 2020

After a semester at home, students return to our buildings – for courses with a practical approach and in compliance with clear rules.

Almost the entire summer semester 2020 was dedicated to distance learning. From 11 March onwards, all courses at the UAS Technikum Wien moved into virtual space. Even under these conditions, our students, lecturers and staff managed to complete the academic year in a professional manner.

The winter semester 2020 will not yet see a return to normal student life, but in the sense of a “new normality”, students are to complete about 50 percent of their courses on site at the two locations Höchstädtplatz and ENERGYbase. The primary goal is to enable lab sessions and courses with a practical approach, for which there is no e-learning substitute, to take place again. The remaining time spent by all persons in the buildings will be greatly reduced.

Guidelines for on-site behavior were drawn up for students and lecturers alike. These include mouth-and-nose protection, regular airing, distance rules in and outside lecture halls and laboratories, and behavior in the event of suspected infection. Stickers and signs are to provide orientation. The warm-up courses in the summer were a successful pilot project here. Automated fever screenings will soon be carried out at the two main entrances at the main site.
