Summer School: UAS Technikum Wien sends five students to Silicon Valley

27 June, 2022

Five participants of the Silicon Valley Summer School can spend a month at San José State University (SJSU). In addition to a product development course, the programme also includes company visits to Apple, Intel & Co.

Starting this summer, the UAS Technikum Wien will send five students each year to the home of Google, Apple and Co. The participants of the Silicon Valley Summer School will have the opportunity to spend a month at San José State University (SJSU), in the middle of one of the world’s leading innovation regions.

They will complete a product development course at SJSU, have a social program with company visits and time for a tourist trip or two on the weekends. Travel, accommodation and participation in the Summer School are financed by the Technikum.

Further education in an international tech environment

“By participating in the Summer School, we are offering five selected students the opportunity to gain further professional training in a highly interesting international tech environment and, in the process, gather new ideas and impressions for their studies at our University of Applied Sciences,” says Gabriele Költringer, Managing Director of UAS Technikum Wien.

“Gaining international experience and thinking outside the box is becoming increasingly important in working life and is also of central importance within the framework of our degree program,” adds Managing Director Florian Eckkrammer. “We hope that the students will also be able to use the opportunity to take something of the spirit of Silicon Valley with them as part of the Summer School.”

Product development and company insights

The five participants were selected based on the creativity of the motivational videos and letters they submitted. In the academic part of the program, the students will receive in-depth insights on the topics of product and service development as well as marketing for five weeks starting on July, 5. The history of innovation and corporate culture in Silicon Valley will also be taught to the students at SJSU. The Summer School schedule also includes visits to institutions such as the Plug and Play Tech Center, the Computer History Museum or the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3), to companies such as Apple and Intel, and meetings with start-up experts.

The participants can organize their own leisure activities on the weekends. They can use the free public transport to visit the San Francisco Bay Area, UC Berkeley and Stanford University or the beaches of Santa Cruz and the wineries in Napa Valley – or visit more distant cities and regions such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas or Yosemite National Park.
