Technological innovation to support coaching in sports and health

Blended Internatioanl Program: Eindrücke von Gruppenarbeiten

06 June, 2023

International project teams from Czechia, Finland and Austria are working together to support athletes and patients.

During the summer semester 2023, the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien hosted Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme with the title Technological Innovation to support coaching in sport and health, which was jointly developed together with Brno University of Technology and Lapland University of Applied Sciences.

The aim of the BIP was to learn how to use inertial measurement units (IMUs) to support coaches’ decisions or to assess and improve the skills of athletes and patients. In several workshops, IMU sensors, balance systems, data analysis, machine learning as well as biomechanics and performance assessment were given by the lecturers of the participating higher education institutions. With these basics, the 27 students of the three institutions developed their group projects, which they worked on online with their teammates during the semester. The students and lecturers met on site at the UAS Technikum Wien from May 22 to 26 to complete the projects. Part of the programme next to the joint project work also included teambuilding tasks, a day trip to Brno and a visit to the IoT start-up Trackbar in Vienna. At the end of the on-site week in Vienna, all groups had to present their finished projects in front of a jury to successfully complete the BIP.

An Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme is a combination of short-term mobility and online teaching. It allows students to work in international project groups and gain intercultural experience in addition to academic knowledge, especially if long-term mobility in the form of a semester or internship abroad is not practicable for students.
