UAS Technikum Wien receives Diversitas Award 2022

FH Technikum Wien erhält Diversitas 2022

14 December, 2022

For the third time and as the only university of applied sciences, Technikum has been awarded the important Diversity Management Prize of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research.

Technikum Wien University of Applied Sciences is one of the main award winners of Diversitas 2022, which was ceremoniously awarded by Minister of Education Martin Polaschek on December 12. This is the fourth time that the Diversity Management Award for universities and research institutions has been presented, and the third time that the FH Technikum Wien has received an award – this time for its current gender equality measures.

“Innovation takes place in technology. Women can take advantage of the same opportunities to be successful here. We also need to attract more women to technology in order to be able to train enough technicians in the first place,” says Managing Director Gabriele Költringer. “I also believe that it is important for women to study technology because the development of technical applications or products can better address the needs of diverse users if women are involved. It’s no secret that mixed teams produce better results than just one gender group.”

In order to achieve the self-committed goal of increasing the proportion of women in teaching and leadership positions to 30% by 2025 and continuing to increase the proportion of women among students, a broad package of measures has been put together for all relevant target groups: These include measures for staff, students and pupils. Three examples: A High Potential Program for young female executives was launched, and the WeCanTech Award recognizes outstanding female students each year and includes them in a mentoring program. As the main cooperation partner for the FiT Study Information Days for schoolgirls, the FH Technikum Wien starts at school age.

“Technology is still considered an atypical career for women in Austria,” says Rector Sylvia Geyer. “Yet in our technologically driven times, technology offers opportunities to help shape the future, offers top starting salaries and sometimes looks very different from the common perception. That’s why we’re actively working to make girls and women aware of this.”

The award is intended to sustainably promote awareness and raise social and organizational consciousness for gender- and diversity-oriented equality policies and organizational development at Austrian higher education and research institutions.
