UAS Technikum Wien: “Standing ready for additional study places!”

24 May, 2023

At FH Technikum Wien, they are optimistic that they will be awarded many of the 350 new study places currently being advertised.

In view of the ending submission deadline, Managing Director Florian Eckkrammer today welcomed the expansion of UAS study places, especially in the MINT sector, and confirmed that UAS Technikum Wien has applied for a large number of the 350 study places currently advertised: “We are ready for additional study places! Not only do we have the technical and didactic expertise, but we also rank first in Austria in terms of attractiveness among applicants in the field of technical studies. It already looks like we will have to turn away more than 1,000 qualified applicants in the fall due to a lack of study places. Therefore, every additional study place counts all the more to be able to do something against this waste of talent,” says Eckkrammer.

The demand from applicants for technical studies at UAS Technikum Wien is matched by an even greater demand from companies for well-trained technical specialists.

Johannes Höhrhan, Managing Director of UAS Technikum Wien, knows the needs of business and industry first-hand: “UAS Technikum Wien operates its own digital job platform and works closely with more than 100 corporate partners in the field of recruiting. At the two annual career fairs held at our university, which are among the largest in the technical sector in Austria, we receive direct feedback on how dramatically the shortage of skilled workers is slowing down the development of companies. A large number of additional study places for UAS Technikum Wien would therefore be the right measure to strengthen the technology and business location not only in the greater Vienna area.”

About the UAS development and financing plan

The UAS development and financing plan of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research provides for a total of 1,050 new federally funded beginner student places for the planning period 2023/24 – 2025/26. The focus of the further expansion of the UAS sector is on STEM (technology, engineering and computer science), digitization and sustainability. In the first stage of expansion, 350 study places will be advertised as early as the 2023/24 academic year for upgrades to existing degree programs.
