UAS Technikum Wien Welcomes Incoming-Students of the Summer Term 2024

21 February, 2024

63 new incoming-students from all over the world, including Argentina, Germany, South Korea, Spain and the USA, started their exchange semester in Vienna.

At the start of the summer semester 2024, UAS Technikum Wien welcomed 63 new incoming-students. Together with their colleagues who have been studying in Vienna since the winter semester, they were able to start their exchange semester at the beginning of February. At the same time, 58 students also left UAS Technikum Wien to study or complete an internship abroad.

To give them a great start in their new environment in Vienna and at the UAS Technikum Wien, the International Office hosts an Orientation Week during which Incoming-students are able to gather information concerning their daily life not only as students at their host-institution UAS Technikum Wien but also as new residents to the city of Vienna.

Curious and eager for a new adventure, the participants engage in discussions surrounding Austrian culture, living in the country’s capital and studying at UAS Technikum Wien. During their first week, they attend workshops on local customs and intercultural competence by Nicolai Sawczynski. Another highlight marks the tour through Vienna by Eugene Quinn where our newcomers are able to get a good impression of the place they will call home for the next few months.

Buddy Accompanies Incoming-Students

Incoming-students moreover benefit from having a buddy by their side – a regular student from UAS Technikum Wien who offers guidance in the first weeks in the new semester and helps navigate their new living situation. Assistance is also provided by the members of the Erasmus+ Student Network (ESN) who support our Incoming-students in various ways, for example with the organization of an international dinner (see pictures). These programs make intercultural exchange not only possible for our international guests but also give our resident students the opportunity to meet like-minded people from all over the world and to sharpen their understanding of a globalized world.

By the way, it is not only personally but also academically worthwhile to participate as a buddy or with ESN, because active work as a buddy for an incoming-student and/or in an international student network (e.g. Erasmus Student Network) for at least 1 semester is rewarded with 2 ECTS for the new internationalization module (BA) in the Bachelor´s degree in accordance with the degree programme.

We wish our Incoming-students of the summer term 2024 all the best for their studies with us and their exchange semester in Vienna!
