The FHTW-based startup zone14 hosted a talk – with representatives from Rapid, Austria and LASK, among others.

An exciting panel discussion and networking event on the topic of “Women in Football” took place on March 4, 2024 at the FH-Technikum Wien. The event offered exciting topics of discussion on current developments in Austrian women’s soccer and gave participants the opportunity to exchange ideas with coaches, players and other interested parties.

Sky reporter Nera Palinic hosted the discussion, with guests including Sara Telek (Bundesliga and UEFA referee), Jasmine Sommer (Real Girls Play Soccer in Burgenland), Katja Gürtler (head coach at SK Rapid Vienna), Michael Erlitz (sporting director at Sturm Graz women), Walter Weiss (sporting director at LASK women), Nikola Staritz (Project Manager at the fairplay initiative), Anna Ressmann (Women’s Committee WFV & Section Manager Women’s FC Mariahilf) and Lisa Makas (Sports Director Women’s Football at FK Austria Wien and 74-time ÖFB team player).

Mariella Müller (Equality Manager at the FH Technikum Wien) emphasized on stage how important it is to make women more visible in technology and soccer.

The panel discussion took place as part of the “Focus: Women in Football 2024” campaign, in which the Viennese start-up zone14 launched a pioneering initiative with numerous campaigns on women’s soccer in the DACH region, which ran from February 8 to March 8.

The Viennese company zone14, which was launched in 2021, has already established itself in the field of artificial intelligence for video analysis in soccer training in Austria. In addition to well-known professional clubs such as FK Austria Wien and Wiener Sport-Club, amateur teams such as FC StadlauSV Großweikersdorf and SK Rum also rely on the zone14 system.

The Sportstech start-up is part of UAS Technikum Wien’s entrepreneurship initiative, with which the university supports corporate partners in terms of talent acquisition and growth. The start-up has been associated with the university for some time – two of the founders are graduates. Simon Schmiderer completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sports Equipment Technology (now Human Factors and Sports Engineering or Sports Technology) at the University of Applied Sciences. Tobias Gahleitner, on the other hand, is a graduate of the Bachelor-Studiums Smart Homes and Assistive Technologies and, like Lukas Grömer, now works as a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences.
