Beyond

New Market Designs for Optimized Local and Regional Energy Systems.

In the “BEYOND” project, new market designs are being developed and demonstrated in order to optimize local energy systems with many different market participants on the one hand and to enable the integration of these local “smart grids” into regional and nationwide networks on the other.

In this way, the project precisely meets the current and complex challenges in the energy market: an increasing number of decentralized plants with which energy is generated in a renewable but also highly fluctuating manner, partly combined with private electricity storage, an increase in electricity consumption due to electrification in the area of mobility, keyword e-cars, and building heating, and a use of existing flexibility potentials in the energy system that has not yet served the grid and system.

In view of these challenges, innovative market designs and applications serving the grid and system for integrated, local and regional energy systems are being developed in the project, not least with the inclusion of blockchain technology. All market participants and stakeholders will be involved in the process: people, also in their role as “prosumers” and taking into account their individual needs as users, stakeholders at the community and regional level, aggregators, distribution grid operators, technology developers, etc. The feasibility of the developed concepts will be tested under real conditions in two use cases (municipality and energy purchasing group). This is to demonstrate both the technological advantages and the economic potentials.
