DigiPEQ (Competence Building for the Sustainable Development and Implementation of Digital, Livable Plus-Energy Quarters)
With the targets defined in the energy and climate policy framework strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030 (compared to 1990), the European Union faces the challenge to implement innovative solutions in the field of energy supply. In current national and European research and implementation programs, the interconnecting of individual buildings into intelligently interacting associations and quarters for optimized and economical use of highly volatile renewable energy sources plays an essential role. For their implementation, interdisciplinary interface and core competencies in the planning and operation of decentralized district energy systems are required on the part of the companies more than ever before.
Due to the lack of available education and training programs in this field so relevant for the future, the consortium is developing a customized qualification measure for the sustainable development and implementation of digital, livable Plus-Energy Quarters (PEQ). The content focuses on renewable local and regional energy supply, energy flexibility, digital infrastructure, highly efficient buildings, load shifting, grid efficiency and sector coupling. In addition, the integration of users and their requirements for livable neighborhoods as socio-technical systems as well as innovative cooperation and business models are the focus of attention.
For this purpose, a flexible training concept is being developed that takes into account the time budget, prior knowledge and interests of the participating experts and is based on a variety of didactic methods. The knowledge acquired is applied on an ongoing basis in the context of individual and small-group projects based on four real-life examples of Plus-Energy districts and anchored sustainably in the companies with the help of transfer projects.
In summary, the following goals are to be achieved:
- To provide the necessary interdisciplinary competencies for the development, implementation and operation of innovative, digital Plus-Energy Quarters.
- To increase the research, development and innovation competence in the participating companies
- To network and establish sustainable cooperation within the consortium beyond the scope of the project via jointly initiated research activities, in the form of a working group or for the implementation of “off-the-shelf Plus-Energy Quarters”
- To integrate the results into the teaching of the university partners as well as develop an academic course at the Technikum Wien Academy in order to make the final contents permanently available.
