“Safety in Robotics – SIR” is a project for the acquisition of infrastructure at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien and is submitted for funding as part of the City of Vienna’s 32nd tender “Quality Assurance of Teaching at Vienna’s Universities of Applied Sciences”. The aim of the project is the acquisition of industrial state-of-the-art infrastructure in the field of machine safety in order to add practical content to the robotics-focused study and teaching program at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien. The project provides for the acquisition of classical and novel, separating as well as non-separating protective devices, which serve for the safe operation of industrial plants. These protective devices will then be integrated into a robot safety laboratory newly built at the University of Applied Sciences. Courses dealing with the integration and operation of these protective devices will be embedded in the curricula of six degree programs at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien. This will make it possible to develop practical experience among students, which is increasingly demanded by Austrian industrial companies. The project is being implemented within the Digital Manufacturing, Automation & Robotics competence area of the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien.
