Refresher courses (in German) are offered in mathematics and physics for new students at UAS Technikum Wien who do not feel completely confident in these subjects. The courses are taught before students commence their studies.
Mathematics – Warm up
The mathematics warm up offers a review of the fundamental mathematics that students are required to know at the beginning of their studies.
Course content includes:
- Logic, sets, numbers
- Transformation of terms (polynomial expansion, factorization, calculating with fractions, exponents, logarithms, etc.)
- Equations (linear, quadratic, logarithmic, exponential)
- Percentage calculation
- Simple systems of linear equations
- Inequalities
- Elementary functions (line, exponential functions, logarithm functions, power functions, trigonometric functions)
Physics – Warm up
Basic knowledge in physics is required for some bachelor’s degree programs (Biomedical Engineering, International Business Engineering, Mechatronics/Robotics, Sports Equipment Technology, Urban Renewable Energy Technologies). The physics warm up offers students the opportunity to brush up on these basics.
- Course content includes:
- Physical quantities and units
- Mechanics
- Thermodynamics
- Electricity and magnetism
- Oscillations and waves
- Optics
Computer Science – Warm up
The warm-up courses in computer science are intended as an introduction to computer science and comprise the most basic concepts of programming.
They include the following subjects:
- Theoretical introduction
- Basic algorithms
- Defining problems and describing solutions
- Basic elements of a program
Electrical Engineering – Warm up
This course provides a basic introduction to electrical engineering and explains basic terms such as voltage, current and resistance. Moreover, the students will learn how to operate laboratory equipment. No prior knowledge in electrical engineering is required to attend this course!
It includes the following subjects:
- Voltage & current
- Ohm’s law
- Calculation of direct current networks
- Simulation of direct current networks
- Laboratory equipment know-how
- Preparation of minutes
English – Warm up
The English warm-up courses are intended to prepare students for the requirements of the first and third semesters in English.
They include the following subjects:
- Improvement of grammar, vocabulary and
- pronunciation
- Social and personal skills (how to

German – Warm up
The German warm-up course is intended to improve the students’ written language skills, and mainly addresses first-year students with a native tongue other that German.
It includes the following subjects:
- Preparation of the writing process, and introduction to German as a language of science
- Writing strategies
- Summary and excerpt
- Term paper, abstract and handout
- Minutes and practical training report
