Why did you choose UAS Technikum Wien for your exchange semester?
  • Because of a previous exchange program in my third semester, in which I met with some UAS Technikum Wien students.
  • It’s a University of Applied Sciences, so it’s a little more familiar.
  • Because of Vienna.
How did you prepare for your stay at UAS Technikum Wien? What practical arrangements did you make before the exchange?

I had to look into accommodation and getting all my baggage here, but besides that not much more.

How did you finance your stay abroad? What is the housing situation like for students?

I work part-time and I get financial support from my parents.

The housing situation is perfect (especially when comparing it to the Netherlands) – the first WG that I sent an email to accepted me and put me in a room next to a friend of mine from the same WG without me having to worry about anything.

How was studying at the FH Technikum Wien (e.g. courses, lecturers, workload etc.)?

The courses I had picked out I really did enjoy and I managed to learn a lot from the lecturers. Some of the courses I had picked were slightly far from anything I’ve learned and I had a difficult time in understanding what’s going on, but with the help of other students I managed.
The majority of the lecturers did their job perfectly and for only a handful do I have anything negative to say.
The workload I can only describe as perfect, although really weirdly spread throughout (which I did enjoy).

How would you describe the Austrian culture and what did you do in your spare time?

It’s difficult for me to pinpoint a description for the Austrian culture, the way it often is with other countries, but it’s probably because I spent a lot of time with internationals/other Bulgarians. Vienna in general striked me as a very multicultural city and I felt like I’m home all throughout. I went out with friends, went to a few concerts, visited stuff here in Vienna, went to some other neighboring cities outside of Austria and had a good time in general.

What new skills and qualities have you acquired during your exchange semester? And what do you think is the most beneficial for you?

I learned a lot professionally in cybersecurity, machine learning, cloud computing, which I found interesting and I managed to explore some new topics, that although didn’t spark that much new curiosity in me, were still good to explore.
As for what was most beneficial to me- I would say that the time I had to explore different places and in general- just enjoy life :)!
