MedTec Summer Academy 2021: Practical projects and summer feeling

22. April 2021

At the MedTec Summer Academy from July 11th to 17th in Raabs a.d. Thaya, students work together on projects from the field of medical technology and gain insights into the work of experts from various disciplines.

The Academy aims to bring together students from technical colleges and universities with experts from research and industry. For one week, the participants work on projects in the field of medical technology and are actively supported by academic teaching staff. For example, the students have already developed a prosthesis controlled by muscle signals and a system for hand rehabilitation as part of the Academy. A model of the cardiovascular system was also created and various software applications have been designed and implemented.

A special feature of the MedTec Summer Academy is the direct contact between researchers and students. Experts from various disciplines present their work and offer participants insights into their experiences and developments. During the traditional fireside chats, further discussions can be held in a relaxed atmosphere. This year’s keynote speaker is the biomechanics expert Hans Kainz from the Austrian Society for Biomedical Engineering, which has been a close partner since the beginning of the MedTec Summer Academy.

Medical technology start-ups have also already provided insights into their innovations as part of the Academy. In addition to the project work, there are voluntary workshops from the field of scientific work for the participants. In cooperation with the Kuratorium für Journalistenausbildung (Board of Trustees for Journalism Education), the “Media Academy” also provides students with tips on how to present their specialist content in an exciting way for a wider audience. And, last but not least, a varied supporting program ensures that fun and summer feeling are not neglected.
